Calvin Nadir Powell
Biography:
Minister Calvin Nadir Powell is a member of Cathedral International located in Perth Amboy New Jersey where Bishop Donald Hilliard Jr. is his pastor. He serves as a minister of the word, worship leader, and psalmist. He is a graduate of Rutgers University where he received a BA degree and presently he is completing his last semester at New Brunswick Theological Seminary where he’ll receive his Master of Divinity in December 2006. Currently, Minister Powell is a campus minister at Rutgers University at the Trinity House under the Rutgers Campus Protestant Ministries.

On campus, Nadir has teamed up with EOF and Black Men’s Collective to help fortify African American men on campus. He believes that spirituality is one of the main ingredients where individuals become whole persons. He hosts a weekly Bible study group during the academic year at the Paul Robeson Cultural Center. He helps the Trinity House get involved with urban outreach in the city of New Brunswick. In June 2006, we partnered with Elijah’s Promise to help with their block party/health fair. We currently serve at the soup kitchen of Ebenezer Baptist Church feeding the hungry and homeless on Tuesdays. Furthermore, Nadir has helped Trinity House partner with the Mid-State Black Nurses Association where together they joined the Presbyterian Church on Livingston Avenue to provide free screenings at their neighborhood block party in New Brunswick in July 2006.

Minister Powell is on fire for Christ. He loves the Lord with all of his heart and that Romans 12: 1 is his scripture that he stands by. “I beseech you therefore, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” He believes that in order to do the work that God has called us to; we must present ourselves as a living sacrifice and mentors students to do likewise.

An art history and political science major, she is active in student government at Douglass and is one savvy girl when it comes to Robert's Rules! What a good Presbyterian!
